The Govt. Degree College Bomai established vide Govt. Order no: 48-HE of 2019,
dated 05/02/2019, is carrying out academic activities in a make-shift
accommodation at Boys Higher Secondary school Bomai. Situated at the
economically backward area of district Baramulla, Govt. Degree College Bomai
stands affiliated to the University of Kashmir and is duly recognized by University
Grants Commission. The academic work is organised within a well defined
academic calendar. The college has two prefabricated huts in addition to a onestory building that houses all the departments/administrative section/lecture theatres/laboratories/ library/staff room/Admission section/Examination section/
IT section and other essential facilities. The construction of state-of-the-art new
campus on the allotted land of 11 acres by the Government at Yembren Bomai is
in progress and the first phase is expected to be completed in the current year.
The college will shift to its new premises at any time in the coming months.
At present the college offers education in Arts and Science streams under NEP2020. Many subjects in Arts and Science streams are already part of the regular curriculum and the college intends to widen its horizon of teaching by introducing
a host of career oriented courses in future.
Starting with the meager roll of 30 to 40 students in 2020, the college has
approximately 300 students on its rolls with more than 50% of girl students
making it the maiden multidisciplinary Co-educational Higher institution catering
the educational needs of students of the Zaingair. Pertinent to mention, the
college has produced 1st batch of graduates in 2023 and second batch is
expected in the month of June 2024, thereby making the institute eligible for
NAAC accreditation, the preparation for which are already underway.
